Space Management

Space is an institutional asset that is increasingly expensive to maintain and build. The Space Management office was created in 2007 to provide the University of New Mexico with room-by-room spacial data to support an integrated approach to analyze, plan, manage and allocate space. Space Management collaborates with numerous departments and initiatives to support maximizing UNM's space and is committed to the effective and efficient use of that space.

Services

Space Management maintains the UNM Space Database of record (FAMIS Cloud) for UNM. FAMIS Cloud is a sophisticated system for managing the physical spaces of buildings and its associated data. This provides true institution-wide space management by consolidating facility related data usually scattered over diverse departments.

Space Management performs space assessments to help departments utilize their space to its maximum using industry standards and UNM guidelines and provides space layouts to communicate the outcomes.

Space Management maintains all the facility coding for UNM's physical spaces. We assign building address, building numbers, floor numbers and room numbers. This information is coordinated with various other UNM and non-UNM stakeholders to help provide data consistency.

Space Management manages the electronic and physical UNM Plan Room. The Plan Room is an archive of record base drawings and projects for the UNM campuses.

Space Management manages the Hokona Storage Cages located on central campus. This storage space is available to UNM departments to rent on a year-by-year basis.

Space Management provides resources and data for various UNM reporting needs. We support the Indirect Cost Proposal (F&A), Building Renewal and Replacement (BR&R), Accreditations, etc., using industry standards and best practices.

Space Management provides resources and data for coordinated project development and implementation for space planning, remodels, relocations and back-fill analysis. We collaborate with Planning Design and Construction, the Provost's Office, Facilities Management, Real Estate, Safety and Risk Services, and IT for both minor and major capital projects.

Space Management is responsible for the updates to the campus map. We work with Information Technology and various other departments to coordinate this effort.

Space Management participates and/or supports various UNM committees that have a direct relationship to space at UNM.
